On the Newsstand: Barack Obama

In the November issue of Washingtonian, I have a new profile of Barack Obama. It was certainly a timely topic and one that was great fun to research over the past two months.

It's one of the first articles to say that he is likely to run for President in 2008. I started out thinking that he was just going to be a player down the road—the question was whether he ran 2012 or waited until 2016? As I got further down the road, though, it became pretty clear that for a variety of reasons a 2008 run was likely: He's got an intrinsic internal drive—an ongoing impatience with his current stop mixed with a sense of mission and a mortality that makes him conscious of his time on Earth.
