As an 8th grader in Montpelier, I spent a few weeks working as a legislative page at the Vermont State House, an awesome and fun taste of politics and the democratic process—one that whetted my appetite for working for Governor Howard Dean and becoming a US Senate Page in high school and eventually working in Washington. I’d long forgotten this, but one of the perks of being a page was getting a tour of the State House dome, where the tradition was to scrawl your name somewhere in the dome. A family friend touring the State House this spring stumbled across my middle school vandalism:
